Meet Cees, Bertilla and Julius!
During our honeymoon in 2004, we stumbled upon this beautiful, warm house. There was so much character in this old house and we fell for the garden with its breath-taking views and privacy. With the help of family and friends, we set upon the enormous task of renovating this 14th century house. It was wonderful to restore this lady to glory and we enjoyed the task whole-heartedly. In 2014 we left the city centre of The Hague and moved to France permanently. Every day we can now enjoy the space, nature, the lovely weather and our guests from all over the world. It is a house that was made for sharing.
Cees formally owned a printing and publishing company. He always worked hard and now that he is retired, enjoys a game of golf, flying, cooking and wine. Every month he sets out to visit local vineyards to stock up, often in combination with lunch in one of the excellent restaurants in the Bergerac and Bordeaux region. Cees much enjoys having guests and tends to cook for them on summer evenings. Many memorable evenings have occurred on our veranda, under the stars, with a beautiful glass of wine, of course.
Bertilla is a photographer, and teaches photography and English. She also loves interior decorating, painting and gardening. A bountiful vegetable garden is the result, which is a fantastic source to cook from. The pantry is stocked with preservation jars.
Julius is a calm and serious young lad. He made quite a step when he had to switch from a Dutch, to a French school. But he has settled in nicely and is now trilingual. He loves to play the piano or guitar, ride horses, play tennis and meet up with friends. He is interested in programming and enjoys going on canoe rides.
